This tree-house, standing over 1m tall was based on the adventures of the Swiss Family Robinson. It was judged by Mike McCarey (of Mike’s Amazing Cakes, Redmond, WA), and won the professionals category at the Cake & Bake Show, Earls Court, London, October 2014.
Madeira cake was baked in round moulds and covered with hundreds of individually cut leaves. Three huts were painstakingly designed and crafted out of pastillage, gum-paste and royal icing, along with figures from the adventure book. Interest in the Tree-house cake generated over 14,000 hits on the Peboryon Facebook Page.
