This has to be one of the most complex of the challenging builds we've ever had: moving wings, smoke stacks with real smoke, a propeller that actually turned and all of that suspended 5 feet of the ground on a steel structure that rotated.
This was an amazing commission to celebrate 40 years of the Women in Engineering awards. Something really worth celebrating. It called for something really spectacular. The brief was to design and create a cake that reflected both power and femininity and so the idea of steampunk heroine lowering the "40" into place was born.
There was so much scope to celebrate all sorts of engineering details, moving parts and literally hundred of rivets!
To top off the whole experience, Carol Vorderman joined the guests and nominees for the festivities, and cut the cake as guest of honour.
